BSNL Encourages Customers to Transition from Paper Applications to Digital
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has recently unveiled an enticing offer, providing its customers with a free upgrade to 4G SIM cards. This move is part of BSNL's strategy to prepare its user base for the imminent launch of 4G services. The state-run telecommunications company is on the brink of introducing its homegrown 4G network in various regions across the nation, and it aims to ensure its customers are well-equipped to experience high-speed connectivity.
BSNL is collaborating with prominent partners such as Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Tejas Networks, and the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT) to facilitate the rollout of its 4G services.
Ravi Kumar Bunga, Chief General Manager Telecom for Andhra Pradesh Circle at BSNL, highlighted that the government has implemented new regulations concerning digitalization. Notably, many BSNL customers initially acquired their SIM cards through traditional paper-based applications. BSNL now offers these customers the opportunity to digitalize their paper applications by visiting nearby BSNL offices or authorized agents. This process entails completing the KYC (Know Your Customer) requirements, which includes providing a copy of their Aadhaar card. Customers have until September 9, 2023, to complete this transition.
Reports indicate that there are approximately 9 lakh customers in the state who continue to use BSNL's 3G services. These loyal customers now have the chance to upgrade to a 4G SIM at no extra cost. It's important to note that BSNL does not intend to discontinue its 2G or 3G services in the near future, recognizing that many customers still rely on these legacy networks for connectivity. However, given the complimentary nature of the 4G SIM upgrade, it is a beneficial option for customers, allowing them to access high-speed networks once BSNL officially launches its 4G services.
Currently, BSNL is actively conducting field tests and has introduced 4G in beta mode in Punjab. The valuable data and feedback gathered during this beta trial will contribute to a well-planned and seamless nationwide launch of 4G services, ensuring that users can enjoy a superior network experience.
