LTTS and BSNL Collaborate to Implement Exclusive 5G Networks for Enterprise Customers

In a recent development, Larsen & Toubro Technology Services (LTTS), a subsidiary of the conglomerate Larsen & Toubro (L&T) specializing in engineering services, has formed a partnership with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), a state-owned telecommunications company. The purpose of this collaboration is to deploy dedicated 5G networks tailored for businesses in India. Their main goal is to introduce private 5G connectivity solutions that will accelerate the digital transformation of enterprises.

Under the agreement, BSNL will provide the necessary spectrum, while LTTS will take charge of deploying equipment, applications, servers, technology, software, and integrating devices and sensors within the customer's ecosystem.

This collaboration also marks LTTS' entry into the realm of private 5G networks, where it will act as a master system integrator (MSI) for its customers. LTTS will offer a wide range of technology options, equipment choices, and implement various use cases, while BSNL will serve as the official network provider.

Both LTTS and BSNL recognize the significant potential of enterprise 5G, which will enable advancements in augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and the Internet of Things (IoT) across sectors such as healthcare, education, manufacturing, and smart cities.

Moreover, BSNL has previously joined forces with Amantya Technologies, a domestic systems integrator (SI), and Echelon Edge, an IT solutions provider, to establish private 5G networks for enterprises throughout India.

Amit Chadha, the CEO and Managing Director of L&T Technology Services, expressed excitement about the collaboration, stating, "We are thrilled to collaborate with BSNL on joint private networks and digitalization initiatives that support the growth of sustainable and intelligent environments. This partnership combines the complementary network and digital capabilities of both organizations, making it an ideal solution for enterprises."

BSNL also commented on the strategic partnership, stating, "This collaboration with LTTS will enable us to assist global organizations in their digital transformation efforts. We anticipate the rapid adoption of private networks across various industries and use cases, as 5G represents a significant catalyst that positively impacts the lives of millions of end-users."

Recently, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) decided against directly allocating spectrum to enterprises for captive private networks, following a legal opinion. This decision has disappointed companies such as Infosys, Larsen & Toubro, Tata Power, and GMR, who have been advocating for spectrum allocation without auctions.
