BSNL Set to Unveil a New Rs 249 FTTH Broadband Plan to Enhance Rural Connectivity

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), India's state-run telecommunications operator, is gearing up to launch a fresh broadband plan designed to bolster connectivity in rural areas. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by rural residents, who often have limited disposable income, BSNL aims to bridge the connectivity gap by introducing an affordable Rs 249 FTTH (Fiber-to-the-Home) plan. According to information shared by BSNL's Nodal Officer, Akash Upasani, this new plan is slated for release on August 1, specifically targeting customers in rural India. Let's delve into the details of this plan and its benefits.

BSNL's Rs 249 Plan:

BSNL's Rs 249 plan offers users a download speed of 10 Mbps and a monthly data allowance of 10GB. Initially, BSNL is providing this plan for free to encourage more rural customers to adopt fixed-line broadband services, thereby expanding its subscriber base. However, it's important to note that the final billing will include an 18% GST component.

The same plan will also be available to urban customers but at a slightly higher cost of Rs 299, along with the 18% GST.

It's worth highlighting that BSNL currently offers an affordable Rs 329 + 18% GST plan in select states, which provides a more attractive option than the Rs 249 plan. This plan offers a faster 20 Mbps speed and a generous 1TB data allowance, delivering a more consistent and robust internet experience despite the slight price difference.

BSNL's recent challenges in maintaining its wireline subscriber market share, slipping from the top spot to third place, have prompted the telco to continue offering competitive plans, particularly within its Bharat Fiber service portfolio. This strategic move to enhance rural connectivity further demonstrates BSNL's commitment to bridging the digital divide across India's diverse regions.
