BSNL's 4G/5G Network Expansion: A Digital Revolution on the Horizon

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has announced that Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is gearing up to introduce high-speed network services across numerous regions in India. TCS is spearheading the deployment of a comprehensive indigenous telecommunications infrastructure for BSNL, spanning 100,000 sites nationwide. An exciting aspect of this endeavor is that BSNL's 4G networks can seamlessly transition to 5G through a straightforward software upgrade. TCS has given assurance that they will accomplish the deployment of 4G in 100,000 BSNL sites within a relatively short time frame of 12 to 18 months, ultimately culminating in BSNL's extensive 4G coverage in India by early 2025.

In fact, the rollout of 4G has already commenced, and if we take the statements of the IT and Telecom minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, into account, BSNL is poised to launch its large-scale 4G network rollout this upcoming Diwali. TCS has assumed responsibility for providing, planning, designing, installing, and commissioning these mobile sites. Furthermore, they are committed to the long-term maintenance and modernization of the networks, pledging their support for nearly a decade.

BSNL's ambitious plans encompass offering cost-effective 4G services to its customers. In an additional significant development, BSNL has earned the distinction of becoming the first entity to deploy Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) in the challenging terrain of Siachen Glacier. This remarkable achievement was jointly announced by BSNL and the Fire Furycorps on October 12, 2023, with the deployment completed on October 6, 2023. This groundbreaking feat ensures that soldiers stationed in the region will finally have access to mobile networks, enabling them to communicate with their families.

With BSNL already conducting field trials in four districts of Punjab, it is highly likely that Punjab will be the initial state in India to be covered comprehensively by BSNL's indigenous 4G network. It's worth noting that BSNL is poised to become the first telecom company in the nation to offer a wholly homegrown 4G network, distinguishing itself from private telecom operators who have traditionally relied on foreign multinationals for their 4G and 5G deployments.
